WHAT IS IT?
A registered Canadian charity, started in 2002.

WHO IS BEHIND PARTNERS?
Private citizens in Alberta and British Columbia.

WHERE?
Partners does aid work in Ethiopia – 17th largest country in the world with a population of about 75 million - per capita annual income of about $125.00 - presently 1.6 million HIV orphans.

UNIQUE FEATURES OF PARTNERS:
100% of donations go directly to projects in Ethiopia - all operating expenses are paid personally by Partners' directors and the Columbia Foundation.

All projects have an Ethiopian "partner" - usually a local volunteer group or village - who contribute 15-20% of the cost - usually in labour or materials.

TRACK RECORD:
Partners has completed over 40 projects and presently has more than two dozen in progress.

TYPES OF PROJECTS:
  1. Micro-financing & income generation projects for unemployed and underemployed women.
  2. School construction and supply of school materials.
  3. Community Education on malaria and HIV.
  4. Group Homes for HIV orphans.
  5. Building footbridges and making schools, hospitals, and markets accessible during the rainy season.
  6. Digging wells/ Protecting springs / Clean water supply.
  7. Trades training for older HIV orphans.
  8. Polio rehabilitation: manufacture of crutches and braces

Ethiopia is a diverse and world-class stage for natural beauty and wildlife viewing, although the tourism industry is poorly developed. There are over 845 species of birds and 260 species of mammals, of which 50 are indigenous only to Ethiopia. Important areas of interest are Blue Nile Falls, Tana Lake (largest in Ethiopia), Simiem Mountains (3rd highest in Africa), Rift Valley lakes and the Sof Omar Caves in the south province.
